Sundered! The Prodigious Prop

Behold! The Prop of Legend! The Visionary Visual Aide! The Grandest of Graphic Organizers!

Ha! Tim and I made this as a prop for the most recent Sundered! D&D session. (If you’re keeping track, this is actually quite a few steps beyond the two sessions I’ve published here. Stay tuned for context!)

As you probably can see, it’s an old-timey, fantasy-style letter with the magical images of the party upon it. At the top of the page are Rhog the Dragonborn rogue; and Zaila, our axe-wielding Goliath. Below them are the dwarf Stormbrews, N’Pallah & Brenner (shaman & warden, very earthy those two), and finally small Myrfalcon, the sword-mage wizard.

Tim prepared the envelope and paper by doing something tricksy with ovens, coffee, microwaves and a hair dryer. I know now what devilry he meddles in. I hand drew sketches of the characters, photographed my drawing because my scanner was styoopid, then used Photoshop to make the runes and arrange the character images. It was then a nail-biting task to see if the printer would consume such paper, but in the end it all worked out in a grand reveal, including sparkly crayons as a wax seal.

Sundered! Angels

This is the second episode of the Dungeons & Dragons campaign I am running for my friends with my husband Tim.  He builds the combats and I manage the flavor.  We work in tandem during the session to run the fight, play NPCs and move the story along.

Click here for the whole Sundered Saga.

The battle against the Windwhip Behir rages on.  It is not long before the party fells the great beast, crumpled and crackling between the hovels and shops of Windwhip.  The party finds a dying halfling who in his last breath lays blame on the fecking, long-eared eladrin who are always causing trouble in the land of Sphera.

Sundered! The Adventure Begins

This is the first episode of the Dungeons & Dragons campaign I am running for my friends with my husband Tim.  He builds the combats and I manage the flavor.  We work in tandem during the session to run the fight, play NPCs and move the story along.

The party begins at level 15 and, as the story goes, they are a mercenary team who’s got a strong reputation and a long history together.

  • N’Pallah (shaman) & Brennan (warden) Stormbrew.  Brother and sister dwarves.
  • Ambassador Myrfalcon: A halfling wizard with a penchant for anthropolgy and diplomacy.
  • Rhog Slythe: My brother Joseph’s dragonborn rogue.
  • Zaila: Our tenacious goliath fighter.

The heros have spent a few days in Drake Rest, looking for a hero’s task.  They are roused early one morning by a red-ochre dragonborn, dressed in leather armor.  “Quickly! There is no time! You heros needed some work, then follow me! There is no time!”

Rhog Slythe leads them through a mountain pass at a feverish pace. He is barely able to explain anything, only that a beast has been tormenting the nearby mountain town of Windwhip in the night.  The Temple of Bahamut has sent Rhog and the heros to the rescue.

When they arrive, the heros see a village in complete ruin.  It is completely devoid of living souls, only corpses and burning buildings.  And at the other end of the street – an electric blue Behir, crackling with electricity.  His eyes flash with lightning and he rears up on his many legs.  He shrieks! “Slaves! Thralls! Submit or become fodder like so many dead horses!”

Myrfalcon steps forward and calls out for negotiation! “Can’t we talk about this? Why not leave?”
His Associate Zaila trumpets a protest, “We’ll never surrender!”

The Behir shrieks again, and lightning slices through the streets.  “You have chosen the way of crackling pain!”

Zaila roars and sprints forward, hammer drawn.  But as soon as she is in range, the mighty lightning wyrm snaps her up in his jaws and she disappears down his gullet. But in no time, the wizard has the enormous beast immobilized, and Rhog, Brenner and N’Pallah take turns taking out chunks of its flickering scales.  Zaila is not long for Behir’s stomach and emerges with slimy, dripping rage and takes her own due in blood and fury.
